Just got back from my second four days. First weekend was hot as hell and no bugling at all. 60 head of cattle camped on my waterhole. Had a small 5x5 come into water but he busted me when I tried to reposition for the shot. Yesterday I had the biggest bull I ever saw in my sight at 52 yards but held off on the shot as he was moving with his nose up the lead cow's ass. Was going to wait until he moved past another bush and the cows winded me. We did finally get good bugles to chase this weekend but still very quiet. Last night I had five cows come into water but no bull with them so the rut is definitely late this year. My knee is swollen up so I am done. Just a weird year for this hunt.

Seems to be the story for all this year, just to warm, or Hot, depending on your unit. Hope it cools off for my hunt mid Oct.

Deer I'll keep a little bit if its cold and up north but elk sucks in this state.. deer and elk up in Washington where we huntes were all alfalfa fed venison.

It's all about getting and keeping it cool. That and not letting a hip joint contaminate the meat. I rotessieried a back strap last night and it was excellent.

easy to do up north rim in nov and dec. still doesnt taste good kinda like pine and sage. get the ones out in 13a and b in the grass and its not that bad
